DIRECTOR OF COMMUNICATIONS 

March 2021 - present

  • Core member of executive team at federal grant program working to enhance emergency care for children through quality improvement science; responsible for supporting communications across $22M in annual funding.

  • Led unified branding effort across 24+ previously distinct brands.

  • Spearheaded redesign of newsletter and email strategy, leading to 2K new subscribers.

  • Currently overseeing web revamp with 98K annual users, contributing to +25% traffic annually.

  • Launched 10+ internal communications resources, including style guide, editorial calendar, staff newsletter, and resource libraries.

  • Established communications metrics framework and co-led operationalizing of SMART aims.

  • Advocated for increased communications staff, leading to the hiring of three team members and creation of two fellowship positions. Assigns work to team.

  • Liaises with federal funders and develops all marketing and impact materials.

U.S. Pain Foundation

DIRECTOR OF COMMUNICATIONS & EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS

Feb. 2017 -  March 2021

  • Communications. Develops and leverages content across various channels, primarily uspainfoundation.org and ancillary sites (100,000+ annual visitors); email marketing (26,000+ subscribers); social media (245,000+ followers); and news media. Reviews and edits all organizational messaging, from funding proposals to action alerts. Manages publication of print and online marketing materials, including brochures and annual reports. Guides internal communications and establishes workflow processes.

  • Education. Launched and emcees organization’s first educational webinar series, working with health experts on presentation content. Identifies opportunities for patient surveys and publishes corresponding white papers, resulting in coverage in Psychology Today, Practical Pain Management, and the American Journal of Managed Care. Directs development of educational resources, including various infographics and an in-depth treatment guide for patients and caregivers. Spearheads creative strategy for large-scale annual awareness campaigns with themed events, social media content, and other initiatives, such as MyPainPlan.org.

  • Management and administration. Supports CEO in numerous aspects of nonprofit management and administration, including helping with program development and logistics, crafting funding proposals and meeting with donors, and ensuring all projects and programs meet compliance standards. Prepares presentations, statements, and other messaging on CEO’s behalf. Represents organization at conferences and presents on health topics to various audiences, including federal policymakers and clinical researchers. Assigns work to three part-time team members.

ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR OF STATE ADVOCACY

  • Wrote memos, testimony, action campaigns and position statements on key advocacy issues. 

  • Oversaw 15-member state coalition in Tennessee, serving as lead contact for cosponsors/lobbyists.

  • Presented on behalf of organization at federal and state policy forums, including the FDA, National Hispanic Caucus of State Legislatures, and Women in Government.

INTERNAL COMMUNICATIONS OFFICER

Feb. 2009 - Feb. 2013

  • Editor of weekly, hospital-wide newsletter, with a print circulation of more than 11,000. 

  • Helped craft messaging (speeches and monthly newsletter) on behalf of hospital president. 

  • Served as communications liaison for key areas of the hospital, including infection control, blood donation, and community health.

  • Served as communications lead for 2013 Joint Commission survey and co-chair of hospital-wide Quality and Safety Communications Committee.

  • Designed and developed content for main website and intranet. 

  • Managed 24/7 media page several weeks each year.
